When I received this book I sat down with a cup of tea and a throw blanket and settled in for what I hoped would be a good book and what I got was a journey that took me back to a tragic event the shook the lives of Oklahomans everywhere. This truly heartfelt story made me feel like it was just yesterday, it captured every emotion and thought that went through our minds as it happened. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

I absolutely loved this story. Annette moved to Lawton to go to college. At the time she wasn't exactly sure what her major was gonna be. Taking a break from school she met Aaron. Aaron had a hard life and had decided he was gonna join the army. Events tore them apart, and during that time Annette met Tim. Does Annette stay with Tim, or does she go back to Aaron? A Struggle of the Heart edition by Marie Fostino Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I don't know if I am angry or want to cry. This book shows a very realistic picture. One none of us like to recognize is happening in our world daliy. Each of us face choices. Those have repercussions we live with regardless.
I love that this started in Lawton! My very good friend of 30 years is from there! The Oklahoma city bombing was a deciding factor in Anettes career path. That's a day I'll never forget! It was addressed well in the story. The feelings I had then I had again now. I knew Anette was devastated when Aaron stopped writing and I knew she was going to get with Tim. I'm a little bit disappointed that she didn't go back with Aaron. I understand why he stopped writing and he was her heart but its not my story. It was very well written and the characters are strong. Love Marie Fostinos books!
I liked the characters but there was no real story here. The first half of the book is a lot of backstory and a ride through a couple's dating life with little to no conflict. Mid-way through, the action picks up when Annette and Aaron are separated, but even through the more tense moments, the story is told and not shown, distancing the reader from the emotion. A conceptual edit would have strengthened the plot and improved the flaws. Formatting is off since the entire text is in bold, which makes it hard on the eyes after a while.
Although the story started out slowly, I eventually connected with the characters, mostly Annette bc I have been where she was. Choosing someone else over my first love! Part of me rooted for Aaron BECAUSE he was Annette's first love, but seeing Annette through Tim's eyes and the way he, no matter what happened, loved her anyway, tugged at my heartstrings.
If you're looking for a Notebook meets The Vow-type book, this is a great choice. Though the beginning is awfully slow, the author has obviously devoted an immense amount of time to character development, and the story itself is framed with a not-too-sugary romantic structure. I personally thoroughly enjoy books where the heroine must choose between Best and Best, and this captured every possible aspect of that choice. I hesitate to give anything away - no spoilers here! - but if romance is your thing, you won't be disappointed with this book. Why 4 stars? I think it needed some tightening up; the pace was off in certain areas, and it needed some smoothing out. That said, the plot line is effectively built, and it's totally worth your time. Enjoy!
A Struggle of The Heart is a beautifully written romance novel. The story packs a powerful message that any romance lover craves when they open a book. True Love. I am not a spoiler and I don't believe in giving a story away, but this book is a great read for a rainy day. It started out a bit slow for me, but I enjoy a fast paced read. The story was well written and Ms.Fostino really has a way with words. Her characters are well developed and you will find yourself asking which guy she should choose. I gave this four stars because it was a little too detailed for me. I like a story that explains a scene and moves to the next scene. This story is a little slow getting there, but when it does, it does. If you are a romantic at heart, then you are going to want to buy this novel. It will not let you down.
This book started out slow for me and I didn't feel a connection to the characters throughout. However, I think with some edits this could be a real gem. My biggest issue was I felt like the story was told at me and didn't let me paint the picture for myself. I don't know if that even makes sense... I'm also not trying to be petty either but the bold print threw me off at first but I eventually adjusted.
I'd definitely suggest giving this book a try and leaving an honest review. Not all books are "5 stars" but that doesn't mean there aren't good qualities to them.
